Top 5 In-House Video Production DSLR Cameras
These are our teams picks for the top 5 DSLR cameras to use for In House Video Production in 2017!
I always recommend hiring a video production company or team for profile videos, products and major marketing content pieces, I also understand not everyone has the budget for social media, email marketing and some of the smaller videos that are recommended for content marketing video campaigns these days. I have worked In-House for multiple corporations and companies setting up their production schemes and of coarse done full digital cinema productions for our team here at Hilo. If your working on a budget or have someone within the company that can manage some minor shooting and editing with ease, I laid out some of the best DSLR cameras for in-house video production below. Note, this doesn't include audio, lighting or lenses which is a whole different ball game, but with these you can get your jump start for sure.
Regular HD VS. 4K Ultra HD
Since regular HD is basically a thing of the past, most of my recommends below are 4K Ultra HD but can also shoot in regular HD. Moving forward over the next few years this is key and might as well spend your dollars on something that can take you years into the future. However, I am putting a couple HD recommends at the bottom.
Top 5 DSLR Cameras for In house video production
1. Panasonic Lumix GH4 (4K): Amazon.com/Gh4
This camera by far steals the show for any DSLR camera in my opinion. Up to cinema 4K recording and an amazing scheme of settings this guy does any job on site or off. We have been using these systems for years and years and cannot even begin to tell you the versatility versus budget on this. Best dollar spent by far and has amazing photography settings as well.
Camera Specs: Panasonic.com/gh4
2. Sony Alpha 7rii (4K): Amazon.com/Sonyalpha
If you are in low lighting which most buildings are, this camera will give you an amazing quality in any kind of low light situation. I always say lighting is the key in any production, but this camera really stretches the run-and-gun scenario to the farthest reaches. It is a little more pricy, but the full frame is worth every penny. Photography is by far the best and shoots up to 42MPX which is second to none in our industry.
3. Canon 5D Mark IV: Amazon.com/Canon5D
If you are used to Canon, this is the way to go. Especially if you have Canon EF mount lenses laying around the office or building. Super Versatile and still shoots the 4k. A little over priced but at the end of the day, the interface is super user friendly and if you have the lenses already or are purchasing this is the easiest sell in house for production for sure.
4. Panasonic LUMIX DMC-LX100K 4K: Amazon.com/DMC
So here is my "BUDGET PICK". Under $800.00 you are out the door and can pick up a lens for another 300$. The Panasonic Lumix LX100 is not only insanely light at less than a pound in full weight, it’s also one a complete powerhouse of performance specs in recording 4K video and superb high resolution still photos at a very decent 113 megapixels. Easy on the go shooting and recording and is super pocket sized.
5. Canon 70D (Regular HD): Amazon.com/70D
Still an awesome camera, this does only shoot Full HD. However, it is by far the most user friendly and easy camera to use. Literally point and shoot. A ton of lens options for near nothing and audio is very friendly. Photography is amazing though so if you are a primary photo company, this will do the job for both. Changing the way users capture still images and video with a DSLR camera, Canon proudly introduces the EOS 70D ? a trailblazing powerhouse featuring a revolutionary autofocus technology that unlocks the potential of Live View: Dual Pixel CMOS AF.
If you are still are in the dark about what camera you should purchase, I am always open to making a suggestion that will fit your budget and company. The above pics are only 5, but there are a ton of video production and photography DSLR cameras out there including NIKON, which I didn't include for various reasons.
Know Your Settings
Although getting a camera is all gravy, you will most likely still need a couple lights and audio. Full video production companies use a variety of all, but you can get away with a smaller set for sure. I put 2 recommends for start ups and if you, again have question feel free to contact me through our main video production website. I am always willing to give safe recommends to any company or business especially in the market for a DSLR video and or photo camera.
