Case Study 2: Lurssen Mastering — Inside a Multi-Grammy and TEC Award-Winning Studio
Mastering is the last room a record passes through before the world hears it, and it is the hardest room to shoot because everything that makes it work is invisible. We went inside Lurssen Mastering and built a mini-documentary around master engineers Gavin Lurssen and Reuben Cohen, who walk through the history of the facility, their gear philosophy, and the precise listening environment the room is built on. Five minutes fifty seconds, carried by the engineers rather than narration. The Grammy and TEC Awards on those walls belong to Lurssen. We filmed the studio behind them.
Case Study 1: Alan Meyerson — Behind the Sound
Film scores get mixed in rooms most people never see. We filmed inside one of them. Alan Meyerson is among the most decorated scoring mixers working in Hollywood, and this is an intimate documentary look at his mixing studio — high-end audio engineering, film scoring and sound design, shot in the space where the work actually happens.
Two minutes forty-three, short on purpose. A room like that does not need padding. The Academy Awards attached to those scores are Meyerson’s; our job was to film the room and the craft inside it, and to get out of the way while he worked.
